Fashion Flair: Where It All Began
As I stated in my “About Me” page, I began my love of fashion at a very young age. I’ve always been creative…I got it from my momma… and growing up I remember thinking “I’m going to work at a magazine company one day.” I remember seeing the movie How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and thought that was supposed to be me working and writing articles. I love the environment fashion brings and the excitement. So, because of this desire to work at a magazine company, I thought I would just start my own magazine at the age of 9. Side thought: Our dreams as kids are so big, why doesn’t it turn out the way we thought?
Anyways, I titled it “Fashion Flair” and I even filled it with advertisements I drew, like “Got Milk?” Finding this magazine a few months ago made me laugh. As kids we are so fearless. We don’t care about anything else around us and we just create whatever we are feeling. As we get older I’ve realized as adults we tend to let responsibilities and the “world” get in our way of going for things we all used to “go for” when we were kids. Jobs, bills, friends, family matters, social life, the trips we try to squeeze in, and everything else life throws at us, often keep us from taking the jump and going for what we truly love to do. As adults we do need to be responsible but at what point do continue to do what is responsible but keeps us from living a happy life. We need to start asking ourselves, am I truly happy? If the answer is no, then we need to reevaluate what is making us unhappy and try to do something about it.
I’ve answered “no” to this question which is one reason why I have started this blog and began my personal styling business. I have realized if I want to be a part of the fashion world, as I have often dreamt of, I need to do something about it now, but in a logical manner. There has been this voice speaking to me saying, fashion is where you belong, this is where your heart lies. For a long time, I have heard this voice but within the past two years it has gotten louder and louder and has really started screaming at me to do something about it. I think up until two years ago I thought fashion wasn’t an option for a career being a girl from Kentucky. But, I have now had some realizations and read A LOT of books which has got me to this point of slowly making my jump into the fashion world. Writing a blog and beginning my personal styling business is one step towards my dream. It’s like a magazine company really, writing and helping with style, right? I think so.
So, here I am today writing to you all about how I got here, a little of what I am about, and hopefully inspiring you to do something about your dream. If you need help landing your dream job, find a stylist to help you build your wardrobe to reach your dream. Maybe I’ll be your girl for that, but if not I hope you continue to follow along as I write about my journey, and inspire you through my clothing and adventures.
